American national parks more popular than ever
Created 1/6/2010
Millions of foreign tourists visit the largest cities in the United States every year, including landmark destinations like New York City and Los Angeles.
However, America's natural wonders are also popular destinations for people from all over the world, especially some of the jewels of its national park system.
Some of the most popular destinations for these visitors are the Grand Canyon, Yosemite and Yellowstone national parks. In fact, this week the National Park Service announced that Yellowstone had enjoyed a record tourism year in 2009, despite the state of the global economy.
According to the park service, 3.3 million people visited Yellowstone last year, marking a 7.5 percent increase over 2008 visitor levels. The previous record was set in 2007, when 3.15 million people came to the park. All American national parks were said to have seen increased numbers of visitors in 2008.
For overseas visitors who plan on visiting America's national parks, travel insurance that provides for any unexpected medical and evacuation costs is a wise investment to make, especially if outdoor activities such as hiking in remote mountain locales are part of one's itinerary.
