SOUTH AMERICA
VenezuelaVenezuela, December 29, 1999-- The Department of State recommends that U.S. citizens defer travel to Venezuela at this time. Serious flooding has occurred throughout northern Venezuela, especially in the states of Miranda, Vargas and Aragua. A total of eight states have been declared disaster areas due to mudslides and flooding, and road conditions have deteriorated.
While the international airport in Caracas, Venezuela has reopened, and some U.S. carriers have resumed service there, road access to the airport is limited. Some regional airports are open, but no U.S. carriers are servicing them.
